Country Paddocks, Open Fields & Rolling Hills

There’s just something about wide open space at sunset. The way kids naturally wander through the grass, the wind catches loose hair and dresses, and everyone seems to slow down a little without even realising it.

These locations work beautifully for families wanting that warm, earthy, connection-focused feel. Golden hour gives us that soft glowy light, but more than anything, it creates room to move, breathe and settle into the moment naturally. Think climbing hills with the kids, cuddles in long grass and those little in-between moments that usually end up becoming the favourites.

Forest Tracks & Gum Trees

Forest sessions have a completely different feel to open fields. More grounded, quieter and a little moodier in the best way. The filtered light through the trees creates a softer look overall, and because there’s more natural shade, sessions don’t always need to happen right on sunset either.

These locations suit families wanting something a little more earthy and intimate without feeling too styled or exposed. The textures, muted tones and natural movement of the bush create such a relaxed backdrop without needing much else around you.

Quiet Little Corners of Your Home

Honestly, some of the most meaningful photos are taken at home. The place where your real life happens every day. The couch everyone piles onto, the nursery you spent months preparing, the kitchen bench where you sway with a baby on your hip while reheating your coffee for the third time.

In-home sessions work perfectly for relaxed newborn sessions, however they’re also beautiful for real, natural maternity and family sessions too. They allow space to slow down and focus less on “posing” and more on connection, comfort and the little routines that will one day feel nostalgic.

And sometimes it’s not just about inside the home either. It’s the backyard your kids run wild in every afternoon, the veggie garden you built together, the weatherboard house you spent years renovating to finally make feel like yours. Those spaces are part of your story too, and there’s something really special about documenting this chapter exactly where it’s being lived.

While these sessions are often captured in the morning for softer natural light, almost any time during the day can work depending on your home.

The best location is usually the one that lets you slow down and simply be together.

If you’re ready to start planning your session, I’d love to send you my location guide with some of my favourite local spots and details about each one, and help you find somewhere that feels right for your family and the story you want to tell.
